Care Provided

Maternal Fetal Medicine

At UT Medicine, we specialize in high-risk pregnancies. If you're having problems with your pregnancy – such as high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease – UT Medicine is here for you. Every type of specialist you may need is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In partnership with University Health System, we are one of the few providers of high-risk obstetric services by Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) doctors in San Antonio. A MFM Specialist has an additional three years of specialty obstetrics education. This training provides more experience in obstetrical, medical, and surgical complications of pregnancy. Some of the common conditions our MFM doctors care for include:

  • Advanced maternal age (age 35 or older)
  • Asthma
  • Autoimmune Disorder
  • Clotting Problems
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Fetal Disorders
  • Heart Disease
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure) in pregnancy
  • Medical complications in pregnancy
  • Previous stillbirth and/or previous congenital anomalies (birth defects)
  • Previous history of premature labor
  • Thyroid Disorders

Our MFM program offers every high-risk patient, whether in the hospital or at one of our locations, a Perinatal Coordinator. This specially-trained nurse will make sure both mom and baby get the care they need while answering any questions about pregnancy and delivery.
